HOSTS

Neil Armstrong

DJ Extraordinaire

Born & bred in NYC, DJ Neil Armstrong turned his love of music and hiphop culture into a career that has allowed him to play music for the masses all over the world – from small 100 person venues to large scale music festivals with thousands in attendance.

Neil initially gained notoriety for his mixtape projects, which showcased his DJ skills as well as his vast eclectic knowledge of music.

Through social media (Twitter, Instagram, Facebook) Neil has found a new way to connect with his audience, sharing his travel experience through the cultural unifier of food.

“Dinner & A Mixtape” is the name of a worldwide series of events hosted by DJ Neil Armstrong, sharing his love of music & good food. Started in 2013, they have been held in New York, New Jersey, Hong Kong, Toronto, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Austin Texas, Portland Oregon, Seattle, Las Vegas, Phoenix and Manila Philippines.

The idea is simple – partnering up with great restaurants around the world, Dinner & A Mixtape provides the opportunity to enjoy music and food together in a very unique setting. Often the restaurant will create a special menu just for the event, and the soundtrack is provided by a new installment in DJ Neil Armstrong’s Mixtape Library. Part eating experience, part listening session. The food nourishes the body, and music feeds the soul.

Six weeks after finishing graduate school, Audrey followed her passion and studied culinary arts at San Diego Culinary Institute. She has been cooking professionally since 2009, having apprenticed in sushi & charcuterie-making. Most notably, Audrey has worked at The Oceanaire under Chef Brian Malarkey, and at Top Chef Master Chris Cosentino's salumeria, Boccalone, in San Francisco. Audrey was Kitchen Manager for MIHO Gastrotruck/A MIHO Experience, Chef & Consultant for The Cheese Store of San Diego, and has helped open eateries in San Diego such as The Lion's Share, and Underbelly North Park. Currently, Audrey runs her own start-up culinary consulting company called Filiguido, and helps her husband with his bicycle frame building business, Zanotti Bicycles. In her spare time, she hosts pop-up dining events with long-time friend and fellow community activist/restaurant sister, Lily Prijoles, for Sunday Kitchen/Meryenda Social Club.

Filipino Food & Bakery

Restaurant & community space

“…From the outside, the Filipino Food & Bakery shop in a small strip mall in San Diego looks like any other Filipino “point-point” fast food restaurant. A stead stream of customers, many from the nearby naval base, drive up and quickly carry out their meals, attracted by the good food, reasonable prices and warm hospitality of the staff. But this small business is no ordinary restaurant. At various times of the day, the restaurant becomes an informal meeting place for activists involved in the Filipino community and multiethnic coalitions. On certain evenings, the restaurant transforms into a venue for spoken word and musical performances by young people who use these art forms to both express their ideas and identify issues of importance within the community… By redefining her [owner] restaurant as a multi-purpose community space, she is continuing the long tradition within our immigrant communities of small businesses serving as informal neighborhood centers...”
